i3DGear's mission is to reduce waste by providing a source for obsolete parts for marine instrumentation systems, in particular the Autohelm 4000 wheel pilot, but also for the Autohelm 3000, ST3000 and the Simrad WP series of wheel pilots.
The printers at Shapeways are unlike any common printers used by people to make these parts. All printers are not the same. These are high technology printers, capable of making parts that are vastly superior to common hobby printers.
All our parts are meticulously redesigned and optimized for 3D printing vs injection moulding. Most parts have design improvements that make them stronger and more resilient than the originals.
