This design is based on the classic Celtic-style knot symbol for the World Tree from Norse mythology, Yggdrasil. I turned it into a seed, from before the worlds emerged, where each sprouting branch and root is interwoven into one.

Inside the leaves you can see a small sphere of blue. If you look reaaally carefully, you could notice that the continents in the blue ball are in the shape of Pangea and not our current distribution (though detail is too small to really see it in the print, there's a hint of it there).

Yggdrasil was in a book called "The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" I read last year, watch for the movie. To whomever designed this piece, I think it's brilliant.

This is a beautiful design! I am also glad to know that I am not the only person who uses a cat for a photographic backdrop!

@joabaldwin Thanks Joe. I sent them an email and am happy to send you some additional ones that I took with my professional camera where you can clearly see the break and glue. Just shoot me your email if you want to see them. I LOVE your creations!

@LPMoon it seems like there are inconsistencies in the quality here, it's incredibly good for some customers, and for others there are flaws. You should reply to the order email with that pic and see if they can send you a new one. I'll get in touch with them to see why it's so inconsistent.

I recently received this and am incredibly disappointed for two reasons: 1. The leaf on top was broken coming out of the bubble wrap. Serious bummer. 2. Clearly it had already broken and someone had glued it back together before shipping! In the photo you can see the line as well as the white glue. This is absolutely shameful and should NEVER have happened. I am shocked it actually broke in a different place and not where it was originally glued. Like others, you cannot tell the bluish-white dot is pangea. That would have been tough and not a deal-breaker for me. FYI - I am a return customer for Shapeways.

@ryanthomasai That looks like whoever put the sealant over it didn't take the time to clean it up before it dried. Would you mind replying to your order email with that picture attached and see if they can either refund you or re-print it for you? Thanks!

I really like the concept, but I don't think mine came out quite as detailed as I'd hoped. The world is a milky blur, "Pangea" is certainly not visible. There is some webbing between the roots as well.

@Maxwellschultz You are awesome, thanks! So glad you liked it. I don't know about the other model (organic form) you ordered, must've been from another designer. I love the little pot you placed it in :)

This just came in the mail & I cannot tell you how amazed I am!! Though I will try... UNBELIEVABLE! I felt like my heart was racing as I looked at this & the organic form I purchased (looks like that ones gone now :( ) freaking out over how amazing they are! Kudos to the designer because he really thought of every surface area! There is no 'Made in USA' stamp or any if that bs that's on everything. Just pure color sandstone. & it has some weight to it which makes it feel EXTREMELY substantial :) SO SO SO HAPPY I BOUGHT THIS!

I gave this one to my wife as a surprise gift because she's been missing spring. It made her so incredibly happy!

I ordered four of them for my daughter birth. So symbol on it. :) Really beautiful. Congrat for that work and thanks!

Yes, ours broke at the neck as well dispite very careful packaging on your part. I really don't need a refund or anything. I am going to carefully super glue this and it should be fine. I am planning on ordering at least one more of these from you for a freinds wedding as I love this and I think she will as well!

I thickened the neck and re-uploaded the model now. It should be much more solid. I also made the little Pangea planet inside of it a bit bigger :)

Sorry to hear that guys, I haven't seen other cases of it breaking, but I'll go ahead and thicken the thin spot on the neck and re-upload the model, hopefully that'll prevent any future problems. The current thickness is above the required minimum, but I'll get it to a safer width anyway.

Ours broke at the neck also, two days out of the box and barely touched. It's a lovely design, and frustrating that it's this fragile.

Hi Thomas, Sorry to hear this has happened like this, this is not standard at Shapeways. I can offer you three things: a full discount, a refund or a reprint of this model. I will send you also an email about this. Thanks for letting me know what you do prefer. Kindly, Christel Customer Service Agent

Really beautiful but weak at the neck and prone to breaking during production, so take care when considering an order. Has kinda put me off ordering from any of these print-on-demand style services... mostly the way such production issues are dealt with. Break was fairly clean and have superglued but still it's the last thing you want to be doing with such a beautiful piece... the offer of a 10% value voucher is almost pointless, I have no faith in further purchases.
