The Mask: http://shpws.me/oJn5

This one has been tough... not so much the file as reducing the volume/price to get it to impulse buy range. Ever since I saw this trailer I wanted this exact psycho mask. We seem to be living in some crazy mad scientist type world right now, because apparently I'm allowed to act on these whims and design the mask and then own it. Wat?

Assembly was pretty simple, I bought brown shoe polish, a toothbrush, a lighter, and this dog harness. Applied the shoe polish with the toothbrush, cut the seams of the dog harness and unwrapped the nylon, then reformed it and melted the straps back together with the lighter. I'm sure you could get a more accurate cosplay piece going if you use more expensive components (belts) and have more useful life skills (sewing, painting).

My experience with shapeways is that they are magicians who build hopes and dreams. This experience was unchanged when I ordered this product. My only complaint is with shapeways business philosophy in general, iphone cases and jewelry are not business ideas, they're show off pieces designed to get people interested in 3D printing and redirected to this site. Those who disagree can direct themselves to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30GD25un0XQ.

Gearbox may be capable of some pretty epic faux pas, but they only made Borderlands 2 better than its already damn fun predecessor. It's my favorite game where you get to carry around two guns by about a million. When I was a kid, I played Diablo 2 a bit too much, and thought a first person version would be amazing but impossible. And now it exists thanks to those beautiful people at Gearbox, so give them lots of business. Look at me, a grown ass man giddy as a school girl, that's how awesome it is. Those of you who think this makes me a 'nerd' can direct themselves here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30GD25un0XQ. Unless you were hurt by DN:F, AVP:CM, or the 'loot chest,' then it's ok if you don't want to give them business. Well... it's not ok, but I understand.

Just posting my sweeeeet mask, figured the 10% off strong/flexible plastic sale and the high popularity of the game right now (4th DLC released a month ago and the steam summer sale) would make it a win-win-win? But maybe a feature is asking too much considering it's fanart, so no worries!

So fun stuff. I don't even remember when we got to the future, but apparently it involves 3D printing. Thanks Shapeways!

Hello Everyone

This is my first creation on Shapeways. Its a robot action figure inspired by the design of the Civil War Ironclad USS Monitor.

https://www.shapeways.com/model/1199034/civil-war-ironclad-u ss-monitor-robot-action-figure.html?li=productBox-search

In the spring of 2013 the Syfy channel produced a show called the Robot Combat League. In this show, 8 foot tall hydraulically powered boxing robots punched it out for three 2-minute rounds. I was so fascinated with the show and the robot designs that I wanted to design my own Robot Combat League competitor.

For my design I decided to pull inspiration from my favorite Civil War battle the clash between the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia (Merrimack). Every time I look at the USS Monitor's turret I could not help but see a face from the two openings in the turret where the cannons would stick out. This is why I began the design with the turret as the head. The body of the robot was given a bulkhead shape for the front and the back. Also, the US shield on the chest was for the fact that the USS Monitor was a Union vessel. Finally I gave the robot cannons for arms to represent the number of cannons the monitor had, which was conveniently just 2 Smile Plus what good is a combat robot without a weapon.

In developing the moving parts of the robot I wanted to make the figure be able to pose in as many human like ways as possible to make the design more fun (which is what makes Modibot so fun). I initially didn't include feet on the robot but during initial test productions I found out that having feet made a world of difference in regards to how well the robot could lean over or be on uneven surfaces. Also, another issue I had was trying to figure out how to make the ball joints have enough friction in order to hold the figures position without putting too much stress onto the joints.

After a few trial and error joints and body styles I was able to come up with the final version that you can see with this link .

The attached picture is of the finished Ironclad: Civil War Robot Action Figure, unpainted. I havent gotten around to painting this one yet but I do have a picture of a painted version of the robot but in a larger scale, that I had printed on an Afinia 3D printer. The unpainted robot was made with the basic Strong Flexible White plastic.

Fully functional aerial working platform in 1:87/HO, printed in FUD
Platform can be raised, extended, wheels turn, stabilizers can be extended.
And don't forget the joystick at the control panel.

Figures just for reference!

"Clip on vase" is an accessory bringing double functionality to an IKEA Pokal glass, so that it can be also used as a vase.

http://ad-3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/clip-on-vase_bouquet-flowers_ad-3d.jpg
http://ad-3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/clip-on-vase_small-bouket_ad-3d.jpg

A simple click is required to get aesthetically pleasing vase.

http://ad-3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/clip-on-vase_clipping_ad-3d.jpg

The recommended material for 3D print is polyamide (strong & flexible) as it allows extension and shrinkage of the shape during the clip.

http://ad-3d.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/clip-on-vase_mounted_ad-3d.jpg

The shape has been optimized so that it uses as little material as possible without compromising the functionality of the product.

Product dimensions are 9/9/6 cm
It also works with glasses with diameter of the top 83-86 mm

"Quintessence" is a family of construction puzzles (also called burr puzzles) based on the geometry and combinatorics of the 120-cell, one of the 4-dimensional regular polytopes. This is joint work with Saul Schleimer.

Copies of the six "ribs" shown in the top left of the picture can be assembled into all of these structures, and more!

We have collected the ribs into three sets, Quintessence Meteor, Quintessence Pulsar and Quintessence Inflation. With each set you can build several puzzles, and with all three you can build anything.

Quintessence Manual (describes which ribs are needed to build which puzzles).

A friend thought it would be a good idea to make a 3D model and give it to a girl from his neighborhood as a birthday present.

We arrived at the decision to design a violin for her. In the bottom there is a hole, so you can put some money into the violin. To close the hole I used the new Elasto Plastic. The model is downloadable if someone wants to print it in Elasto Plastic too.

Yesterday it arrived. I've already made some fotos and uploaded them.

Her birthday is in nearly two weeks and I hope she'll like it Smile

Pencil vase is a 3D printed product ,that uses 3 hexagonal pencils to turn any glass, coffee cup or soup bowl into a beautiful minimalist style vase.
All one needs for assembly is a set of 3 standard hexagonal pencils (BIC, Stabilo, etc). It is recommended to use pencils with eraser (one brand that works well is BIC) to avoid possible sliding on glossy surfaces.
Pencilvase is made of laser sintered polyamide, flexible and yet strong enough to support 1-3 small flowers. The product is compact and easy to store.
The inspiration for this design is to provide comfort and gentle flower care with a compact hi-tech 3D printed corner piece and everyday materials.

Product dimensions are: 9/8/3.2 cm
Recommended flower height is up to 35 cm
Supported glass should have a diameter of up to 9cm and height of up to 14cm

Hi everyone !
We are CODE_Creation Smile
We are an industrial designer group which put CODE ( from parametric information to object ) in different kind of Creation .

Project :
CODE_
CARD_
CASE_

Brief : To create a gadget / can only be 3D printed / consists of 2 parts / we can use it everyday / designed using CODE /

CODE_
CARD_
CASE_
is a series of card case designs inspired by the modern architectural facade designs .
Using a CODE_CARD_CASE_ is just like holding a tiny modern architecture which holds your name cards !
We have been using it and got some nice feedback from the others so we decided to make it a series .

CODE_
CARD_
CASE_
consists of a base and a cover ( the facade ) , which both of them can be in different colors .
It has been tested and it works perfectly with SWF

CODE_CARD_CASE_COVER_CHETH is our first creation of the series .
We choose the HOT PINK and Black to start with the collection and will extend the collection in the future.

Please go to the product page and look at the design details we have made
Hope you enjoy it Smile
Appreciate your comment Smile

Spherical neodymium magnets are (were?) a popular desk toy with which you can build all sorts of intricate structures. However, as far as we know nobody has yet been able to build a buckyball (the soccer ball shape) with them. (This is ironic, given that "buckyball" is one of the trade names they used to be sold under).

Well, we don't know how to build one either, but we know how to cheat using 3d printing. This scaffold gives just enough structure to make it possible to build, very carefully, using at least 4 hands.

This is joint work with Rosa Zwier.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Eight Inch Bolt is a 21 centimeter high bolt-shaped puzzle. The object is to remove the ring from the bolt. Because of pins and grooves, the ring can only slide up and down, it cannot turn. Hidden inside the ring, there is a smaller ring with a pin that runs in the maze grooves. By moving the big ring up and down, the hidden right turns sideways, pushed by the grooves. When the maze is solved by moving the ring up and down many times in a delicate sequence, it comes off at the top.

The model on the photos was 3D-printed by George Miller in 2004. This first prototype has a red top, as George ran out of black ABS wire midway his print. George also added a ruler, which indicates the solution.

Another copy of this puzzle is on permanent display at the Kinsey Institute in Bloomington, Indiana.

Watch the YouTube video, presented by Tess.

60 years ago today, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, using supplemental oxygen, first summitted Mt. Everest. In commemoration, I've put together a model of the entire Mt. Everest massif (the peak iteself and surrounding ridges) for Shapeways. I've printed one in "White, Strong, Flexible" and am working on a Sandstone version.

All 4 models:
http://www.shapeways.com/search?q=TinyMtn+AND+Everest
The 4" square one that I've printed:
http://shpws.me/nVvP

Data was originally from the Shuttle Radar Tomography Mission, but was cleaned up by the excellent caretakers at viewfinderpanoramas.org. I made it because I freaking love mountains. And because every box that appears on my doorstep from Shapeways has meant a happy evening exploring a new landscape from a novel point of view.

Firstly there is the old Web Cam Privacy Screen for both Mac and Laptop
The idea behind it is that if you like to work with your underwear wrapped around your head at home like I do most of the time... and don't want some ratters to record a video of that and post it on YouTube, then you'd be on the safe side with this covering the lens of your webcam. Because let's be honest. When you are concentrating on your screen, would you really notice the light of your webcam come on?

http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_436663_639417_1352388781.jpg
http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_436663_639421_1352388813.jpg

http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_696370_645936_1357803323.jpg

Then there is a larger version of My Little Pony Girl
I made a smaller version a while ago because I always wanted to make a cartoony style girl character and taking one of the my little pony characters and turning her into a Shane Glines inspired sculpt seemed like the perfect idea. The small one turned out well, but I really wanted a little more weight and detail so I increased the size of the sculpture and I have to say I am really happy with the result.

http://images1.sw-cdn.net/model/picture/674x501_847113_1020772_1369377298.jpg

And a larger version of Aleysha
I made this figurine quite a while ago as part of anatomy studies and practicing sculpting. The new larger print in WSF still does not show the full level of detail the model has, but the overall shape and larger anatomical structures come out quite well. Perhaps it will be of use to someone looking for a reference of a (admittedly exaggerated) female body or it may just be a nice figurine to have on your desk.

I created this steampunk-styled submarine in Blender and had it printed by Shapeways in full color sandstone. This is the first product that I've made public in my Shapeways store: http://www.shapeways.com/model/1090833/steampunk-submarine.h tml

I've been getting into the steampunk genre recently and I was inspired to create my own design. I'm working on some other designs that will also be steampunk-styled. If you have Netflix watch "Last Exile" which is a very good introduction to the style of the genre.

This photo is of the second print I made since I messed up the coloring for the first print which made some of the parts white. I'm still learning to use Blender, but I got it right the second time. I'm particularly impressed with how well the propeller came out; I was very worried the weird angles wouldn't print well. I also like the grain from the sandstone; it gives the model a nice texture.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Impossible Twist is a twisty puzzle, inspired by the impossible dovetail object. As its cut crosses the equator, the mechanism is classified as "deeper-than-origin". The puzzle is very easy to solve, as it cannot be scrambled that much.

Watch the YouTube video.
Buy the puzzle at my Shapeways Shop.

This is a European 6-in-1 Chainmail Necklace, where each center ring links with 3 pairs of side rings. The length of the necklace is approximately 33 inches and is composed of 300 separate rings. The larger rings are .65 inches in diameter and the smaller rings are .5 inches in diameter, with all rings being 1.55mm thick.

I am currently working (painfully) on adapting this design to some bracelets. Hope to have them ready soon!

This is a Full-Persian Chainmail Necklace, made with 240 separate rings with an approximate length of 37 inches. The rings are .8 inches in diameter and are 1.95mm thick.

My next step is to design a version with smaller, more delicate, rings. It's proving to be difficult, but I'm getting close.

Marco Mahler and I have started a new shop, Mobiles by Marco Mahler and Henry Segerman. Marco is a kinetic sculptor specializing in mobiles. His work (up until now, handmade) has been featured in shops and galleries across the US and internationally. We met in February via twitter when I was looking into motors for moving a 3D printed sculpture, and got talking about the possibilities for 3D printed mobiles. As far as we can tell, these are the first fully 3D printed mobiles in the world.

Here is a video montage of some of our designs.

Here is a video of me talking about another design, "Ternary tree mobile".

Many more photographs here: http://www.marcomahler.com/3d-printed-mobiles/.

Globenest is a decorative ornament with 3 cute little birds.

In the breeding season, Globenest can be filled with little pieces of wool and yarn, to form a one stop shop for birds to get material for their nests.

Beside its functional use, people love Globenest as a home decoration item.

Watch the video and you can hear the birds sing!

Hi Shapeways fans,

Spider Gear was suggested by Bram Cohen and named by José. A ball with holes is contained by a cage and six pointy gears. When the ball is turned then the gears follow. Both the ball and the gears are bi-colored. The object of the puzzle is to turn the ball such that it ends up upside down, while the gears are returned to their original position.

The iPhone 5 can do a lot of amazing things, but it can't hold even the smallest piece of paper. Cariband is a case for the iPhone 5 that holds the things we carry day to day: ID, credit card(s), cash...etc. By folding and inserting into the band, your iPhone can be viewed in portrait or landscape mode. Cariband is useful in holding things to our iPhone 5, or holding our iPhone 5 onto things.

This is my first 3d printed design project. I have always wanted to design a 3d printed object, and the iPhone 5 gave me a great subject to design around. The thing I noticed about cases, is that there are a lot of cosmetic differences, but they all do the same thing, I wanted to add more functionality to the iPhone case, while maintaining a clean aesthetic. Considering how much we carry our phone with us, it seemed to me that the phone case could do more.

you can see the project at http://www.objecttheory.net which will take you to my store in shapeways.

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
This is my balancing business card stand. It's been on my desk for quite some time now but I finally got around to photographing it. I designed it after thinking about stands for items that balance the item on a corner, to allow the stand to be quite small (and of course because it looks fun). Seeing Will la Puerta's awesome Card Bot reminded me that my own business cards were still tucked away in a box somewhere, and this is the result:

index.php?t=getfile&id=30619&private=0

It can be used for both horizontally and vertically oriented business cards in standard sizes.

Hi Shapeways fans,

Deeper Madness is a deeper-cut version of More Madness. It has a "deeper-than-deep-origin" mechanism, like Dave Pitcher's award-winning Rotoprism 2. Deeper Madness is a face-turning puzzle with six screws under the six turning faces. Starting from a screw, the associated visible cut at the surface is more than 90 degrees away.

Deeper Madness also answers Dave Pitcher's question whether a puzzle with a deeper-than-origin-cut mechanism can be solid. This puzzle shows that it can. Notice that there is still a controversy about what constitutes a deeper-than-origin-cut mechanism.

I'm not sure if they are very happy with me at Shapeways, as I was really giving them a hard time with small wires and thin walls. But I have found a nice balance, still making details that will go to the very limit of what is possible. The model is only 24 x 36 mm and the smallest wire is 0.4 mm. Thus it can only be printed in FUD. I made the walls not straight, but thicker on the bottom than on the edge around the big openings, so that it looks like it has thinner walls than it really has. All in all, detailed and small, but still a strong model. I'm very happy and proud of it.

Hope you enjoy the pictures! Have a happy Easter!
