Art in the 3rd Dimension

Two-dimensional images, projected into the third dimension. by Tony Karp
About
I have been working with projects involving art and technology for over fifty years. I believe that all art requires technology, and vice versa. I call this blending "Techno Impressionism." My work has taken me down many paths, through many different careers with the common thread being the successful integration of art and technology.

The pieces shown here are made by a new process I call "straight-through printing." I start by taking one of my existing 2D images and projecting through a 3D shape using 3D computer software. I manipulate both the image and the 3D world until I achieve the desired result.

I'm using a material called full-color sandstone that has the widest color range of any 3D printing process.
