Howdy, Space Cowboys. Our story is pretty similar to many of the other shops created here on Shapeways. It arose from an interest in doing something in our own way, and grew into the business you see before you. Let me regale you...
I enjoy Star Wars costumes and props very much, and I love seeing not only the amount of effort folks can put into accuracy, but also the customization choices made with classic and iconic designs. I remember, one day, I was looking for a Luke Skywalker style belt buckle. I wanted it to have dimension, not just the regular geometric shape we all know and love, but I was having difficulty locating anything that piqued my interest. It was then that the concept for the Galactic Hero, our flagship belt buckle, was born.
I wanted the design of this particular item to be remeniscent of the classic style that is oh so familiar, but with a bit of a modern twist. I booted up my CAD program and not long after, our first design was created. I enjoyed the process so much that I became addicted to designing, and eventually ended up with 18 different designs in one week! Granted, not all of them lived to see the storefront, but the passion was felt and the momentum has continued to today.
Hopefully all of you enjoy the effort put into these designs, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds in store for all of us.
