- Town-class/Southampton subgroup light cruiser
- by 1942, the remaining Southampton-group light cruisers (Newcastle, Sheffield, Glasgow, and Birmingham) received light AAs in the form of 7-10 single 20mm Oerlikons (later some duals) and radars. All survived WW2.
- HMS Glasgow was present during the Normandy landings, where she was damaged by shore batteries while bombarding Cherbourg.
