It was first designated SSM-A-1, then B-61, then TM-61, and finally MGM-1. It carried a 40 kiloton nuclear warhead and flew at high subsonic speeds. About 1200 were built, with some stationed at "hot spots" around the world, including West Germany, Taiwan, and South Korea.
