US fighter aircraft from the late 1930s, one of the first 'modern' fighters in USAAF service and the predecessor of the much more successful Thunderbolt.
Some were exported to Sweden (as the J 9) where their limited combat performance was not tested and a few remained in service as 'hacks' until the early 1950s.
