About this Product
Set of four 1:300th scale Tatra 111 trucks with tarpaulin covers. The Tatra 111 was a Czechoslovakian WW2-era series of models, originally for German service; they were produced continuously until 1962, when they were replaced by the T-138 series, by which date the T-111's decidedly old-fashioned cab had been updated (this model depicts the older style). The photo showing the painted but un-based model comes courtesy of Fred Oliver, and shows an example printed out in the default cheapest WSF plastic. Note however that the mudguards around the front wheels of the T-111 frequently get rejected by the Shapeways operators as being "too thin", so if you order this model, there is a good chance your order won't go through. However, changing the design to thicken them would be a major undertaking... The other two shots also show examples that were also done in the cheapest WSF plastic; note the grainyness of the material - and how the mudguards actually print out perfectly fine; the based-up version was painted by me. You can also see some "stepping" on the top of the bonnet (hood) due to the way printing is done with WSF - building the model up layer by layer; and much more serious stepping on the tarpaulin. Such stepping seems to occur semi-randomly depending on the orientation of the printing machine; I understand it isn't a problem with the more expensive "detail" plastics.
