Fafnir is, in the cycle of Sigurd from the Scandinavian mythology, the son of Hreidmar and the brother of Regin, Otr, Lyngheior and Lofnheior.
Originally a relatively powerful dwarf, who, having seized the treasure cursed by his father, took the shape of a dragon to protect it.
He is finally killed at the instigation of his own brother Regin, by the hero Sigurd (siegfried).
