Product Description
Tennessee, often referred to as "Tennessee I" to differentiate her from Buchanan's later ship, was built at Memphis alongside Arkansas and a third sister ship. When the Union won the Battle of Memphis, Arkansas was towed downriver and finished to a significantly different plan. Tennessee, however, wasn't quite as far along, and so was burned to prevent capture. Like Arkansas, Tennesee had a near vertical casemate, with large gunports. Otherwise, however, she would have been quite different in appearance: her casemate a different shape, and her fore and aft guns mounted on exposed pivots.
There is no record of her painting scheme; I've typically favored a rust or chocolate brown color similar to that seen with Arkansas.
