Product Description
This is for the DIY Boombox Bluetooth enthusiast and MAKERS.  It is a build upon YouTuber Modiane1's basic hack tutorials that feature the Phillips 2-Way LCD TV Speaker Module

These are cutout cover mounts that save hacking time, while making your speaker project look clean and a bit more professional.

These are the basic three Phillips Speaker Module Variations that are all compatible with these cover mounts:
  1. Philips 314113000221 R TMM 2-Way LCD TV Speaker Module 8 Ohm.
  2. Philips 314113000201 R TMM 2-Way LCD TV Speaker Module 4 Ohm.
  3. Philips 314113000191 L TMM 2-Way LCD TV Speaker Module 4 Ohm.

Product:  This Passive Radiator Cover Mount is designed around a hacked Phillips Oval Shaped Aluminum Passive Radiator.  This mount will clean up the look of your enclosure cutout and save some hot glue.

It holds two 60mm Grills to keep fingers and objects away from stressing, hindering, or puncturing the moving rubber membrane.

Wish to increase the bass?  Included for FREE is a detachable second mount for a U.S. quarter coin, which will add weight and lower the resonant frequency, which will have your roomates knocking!

Voltmeter Mount Size + Position Variants:
  • A voltmeter is a numbered digital display of power being put out measured in volts.  For Example, Your project might use 12v DC Lithium Batteries, or you could have a hacked 12v wall charger that converts 120v AC IN to 12v DC OUT.  So at a glance, a voltmeter gives visual cues of the current power your source is putting out.
  • We have 0.56" and 0.28"(mini) Voltmeter Mount variants.  Made specifically for the see through enclosure.  Will sit flush against the clear face.  Positioning options can be any horizontal or vertical combinations.  Directly molded into a Speaker Mount Design for a clean all in one package.

Bird Nerd Specs:
For this Passive Radiator any rectangled surface of 126mm x 61mm would do just fine.  Height from surface will be 12.5mm.  A hacked radiator should measure around 118mm x 49mm.

Speaker Module Hacking Hints/Tips:
Tip #1: Norman Would Be Proud.

Hacking down the back half of this speaker module is the most work you'll do.  The Mount needs the Radiator to measure about 118mm x 49mm.  Don't fret!  This is easy to do.  We'll just need the right tools and to use our eyes and LOOK!

Hacking Tools:        * Warning: Your Rotary tool will be throwing off hot molten plastic, so protective clothing i.e. longsleaves, gloves might help.

Large Section Slash Hacking:
I use the Dremel 426 1-1/4" Fiberglass Reinforced Cut-Off Wheel to remove large sections in two long slashes:
You may notice the white and metallic (+) (-) terminal connector.  This will be in our way.  It's just hot glued in place and can be pulled out and used for later.
  • Slash One - Is inside at about 1 Inch above the Rubber Membrane.  It feels awkward for this cut, but I hold my Rotary in a downward Norman Bates Stabby-style, and make a long circular horseshoe shaped, bowl hair cutting arc slashy-slash.
  • Slash Two - I turn it over and make a horizontal cut to connect the horse shoe.  Being this close to the Membrane, and if the cut does not go deep enough, DO NOT bend and break by hand. Doing so can ruin the Membrane.  Cut more or finish with a hack saw.

Fine Tune Widdling:
So, in a nut shell, the Radiator is composed of:
  • A flat oval shaped piece of aluminum.
  • A Rubber Membrane.
  • And an O-Ring piece of ABS plastic.
So, in the most simplest terms, all we'll be doing is using the glued edge of Oval Rubber Membrane as a cutting guide while  widdling with the Dremel 115 High Speed Cutter 5/16 Inch Bit.
  1. Imagine a sandwich cut in half.  You can see the layered cheese, meats and bread. Well, the Oval Rubber Membrane, Glue Adhesive and ABS Plastic behave the same when ground down.
  2. So, when looking at the edge you will notice two layers separated by a very thin Glue Adhesive line.
  3. When you notice the Glue Adhesive line STOP, and move along.
  4. It's easy.  Like reverse peeling a potato with little stoking nicks.  Instead of flicking real potato skin away, we're stroke nicking a black potato toward our body.
  5. Test it against the Passive Radiator Mount.  If it fits in then we're done!

Installation Tools:
We'll need:
  • Protective Eye Wear.

IF choosing to use the optional Quarter Coin Bass Booster Mount.
You'll also need:
Installation Tips/Hints:
  1. Once you get this mount photocopy the bottom at 100%.
  2. On the copy pencil draw an oval line about 3mm from the inside opening.
  3. Cut out the photocopy, including the newly adjusted 3mm opening, and line it up symmetrically.
  4. Tape the copy down lightly.  Take this time to really look at it.  Place it on a shelf. Walk around it, and ask yourself, "Does it LOOK right?".
  5. With a marker trace the 3mm opening and cut it out using a Dremel-type rotary tool.  I like using Dremel's 115 High Speed Cutter 5/16 Inch bit.
  6. With a pointed object, poke a hole in ONE, JUST ONE, corner screw hole.  Why?  We'll be using the mount itself as a stencil rather than the paper copy.
  7. Some enclosures have curved surfaces that will flex the mount, and make srcewing a hassle.  The paper copy is flat, and also looking through a clear refractive pool-like surface throws the holes off.
  8. With a Hand Drill using a 7/64 Drill Bit, and Drill JUST THAT ONE corner hole.
  9. Now throw the paper copy away.  Because of a curved surface and mount flex it won't be accurate.
  10. Hot Glue the Hacked down Passive Radiator to the inside of the Mount Cover.  NOTE:  Keep in mind that the optional FREE Quarter Coin Bass Booster Mount's connecting legs... er, I mean the centering Acu-cut Technology is meant to be removed.  It doesn't need to be cut off now, but should be at some point prior to head rockin' out to your tunes!
  11. Tread a M3 x 20mm through the respective corner of a 60mm PC Fan Grill and the Mount Cover.
  12. Loosely screw down into the respective enclosure corner.
  13. LOOK hard for symmetry and pivot it in place.
  14. Slightly screw in so that it no longer pivots.
  15. ONE AT A TIME drill another hole using the mount as the stencil and screw it in right then.  One at a time to compensate for flex.
  16. Hot Glue any air leaks.  Air tight makes it sound just right.
  17. DONE!

Quarter Coin Bass Booster Mounting Installation (Optional):
  1. Eyeball the center of the holes, and drill pilot holes in the metal. Press down or the bit will float, or your holes will come out cock-eyed! (Been there!)
  2. Now make 'em bigger with a 3/16 bit.
  3. Using Finger Nail Cutters, cut off the Acu-Centering Pilones (legs).
  4. Drop a dot of Hot Glue in the center lower space between my CROSSED WARHAMMER LOGO.
  5. Quickly pop in a U.S. Quarter Coin.
  6. Drop a dime sized bead of Hot Glue on the back of the fully expose side of the Quarter and let cool. This will act as a rattle barrier between both metal surfaces.
  7. Tread the Rubber Anti Vibration Flexible Rivets through the holes and pull in place.
  8. Pull excess Rivet rubber, and with a slow sawing motion of an X-acto blade, cut off the excess.
  9. My Half-Blood Prince, NOW WE'RE DONE!

Speaker Module Hacking Hints/Tips:
Tip #2: When They're Gone...
  • The plastic poly speaker cones are a pain in the rump if dented in.  Avoid this at all costs.  So, when hacking it up you'll be ass grabbing it everywhere, which means: Dent City.   So Just Stop.  Find some cardboard, and cut a rectangle big enough to cover both woofers and tweeter tape it down.  It's worth the hassle rather than trying to un-dent it later.

  • The 1 inch tweeter seems to be the most important component, because it's so easy to dent up, and rarer when harvesting.  Your inventory will have multiple woofers and passive radiators, all in nice working condition, with many tweeters fucked up or broken, which will force you to crack open another module.

  • Note:  The Phillips 2-Way LCD TV Speakers Are Clearenced Blow-Out Speciels, with replacements becoming more rare, so take the time to protect what you got, because when these are gone the cheap fun is done...  I don't even start hacking unless I plan to put them in an enclosure right away.
