The 6x6x8 Cuboid is definitely a well designed puzzle. It provides great fun and quite the challenge to solve. Brilliantly designed by Jeremy Isenburg, this puzzle has not had any pops on me so far and the rotation is very smooth. I highly recommend purchasing this puzzle in POLISHED. After receiving this puzzle in polished myself, I will never buy it without polishing again. It makes that much of a difference.
A side note: I asked Tom Z to build this puzzle for his shapeways shop which he agreed to, designed, printed and made a test video. His version has alignment issues which he told me if I was willing to pay for the second prototype he would re-design it. I agreed. That was the last time I heard from Tom and he has not answered any email since. That was months and months ago. After asking some very respectable people in the Twisty Puzzles Forum if I had the right to produce this puzzle even though Tom has designed it already, they ALL told me that yes I do because I had done what I could to contact Tom and received no answer at all and that it looked like he had abandoned his project.
This puzzle is relatively straight forward to assemble. If you have any experience assembling a V Cube 6 or Shengshou 6 or 8 then this will be a breeze. If asked enough, I will make an assembly tutorial. Addition to this DIY kit from shapeways you will need screws and springs. Washers are not necessary as the center pieces never turn so neither do the springs. I recommend buying a set of dayan 3x3 hardware for the springs, link to these are at the bottom of the page. Or you can sacrifice a current puzzle and take them from that. For screws, this puzzle requires 6 screws at 3m X 20mm. Any less than 20mm in length is not recommended. A picture of the screws I use are in the pictures menu.
If you would like a fully assembled, dyed, broken in and stickered puzzle, I can provide this at an additional cost, please email email@example.com for inquires to this service.
This puzzle was a collaborative effort by myself and Jeremy Isenburg. Jeremy did a fantastic job of bringing this puzzle to life after I hired him to do so. After having many shapeways puzzles myself, this puzzle is one of the smoothest turning and stable shapeways puzzle I've ever turned. .
