Product Description
This is a set of 11.00-18 wheels on combat rims, as tested on CCKW trucks in 1943. The wheels were originally designed for the famous DUKW, and featured wider bodies and softer sidewalls to allow them to spread under the weight of the vehicle and increase the ground contact area - this provided better "flotation" in soft sand where normal hard narrow tires would sink in. This set is designed to fit the Italeri truck kits (#201, 205, 271), and are best used with the "banjo" axle conversion for Italeri that I offer in my SW shop. The real things could not be fitted to trucks with the Timken axles found in all 1:35 kits, so to be accurate the axles need to be changed. The plan to equip large numbers of trucks was dropped in 1944 after the end of the desert war, and the success of D-Day, since it would have disrupted mass production if the Army was to supply these conversions at the same time.
This set has two front wheels, four rear wheels, and one spare.
