Product Description

Well, actually our model doesn't go in the ear - it is the inner ear. The cochlea turns "sound" into "hearing" for our brain, as any Audiologist will be happy to tell you in great detail. The semi-circular canals control our equilibrium. This cochlea charm is scaled up only about three fold from the actual size in our heads (one on both sides). Employing the semi-circular canals as a loop for the neck chain [not included] the ornament becomes a dazzling pendant.

Sound waves are almost everywhere. But even though our brain is an amazing organ - it alone is able to recognize sound waves. That's the job of the cochlea! The cochlea is the innermost part of the ear and connects directly to the brain. Each cochlea is incredibly tiny. It's about the size of a pea and from the outside looks like a tiny little snail shell. But inside are all sorts of little structures that work together to turn "sound' into "hearing." They're all rolled up into a spiral, but if you would unroll an average cochlea it would end up being a tube about 31.5mm long.
