This fantasy 28mm dwarf miniature depicts a Korean seonbi holding a hwando ring sword and a deungpae lacquered rattan shield.
Korean seonbi 선비 ("sun-bee") scholars are considered one of Korea's iconic traditional archetypes. Seonbi believed that it was their duty as non-government officials to live as role models of virtuous living and strong moral integrity. They promoted doing good in their communities and promoting literature, art, philosphy, etc. in order to preserve the Confucian sense of justice and heritage of the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties.
