Infant Choking Hazard Tester

Designed in accordance with CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) Testing and Certifications Standard 16 CFR Part 1501, Small Parts Ban for Toys and Other Articles Intended for Children under 3 Years of Age which Present Choking, Aspiration, or Ingestion Hazards.

 

Section 1501.4 b specifies the design for "Small Parts Cylinder", which is used to test whether or not a toy or part of a toy presents a choking hazard. 

 

According to the test specifications, the procedure is as follows :

"Place the article, without compressing it, into the cylinder. If the article fits entirely within the cylinder, in any orientation, it fails to comply with the test procedure. (Test any detached components of the article the same way.)"

 

My modified version of their Small Parts Cylinder has:

• A hexagonal shape to prevent the tester from rolling when placed on its side
• A wide hexagonal base to allow it to stand upright with greater stability
• An integral attachment loop to clip a small carabiner or other attachment hook to hang the test from a bag or article of clothing, which makes the tester more convenient to access while out shopping for toys, at a playdate over someone else's house, or anywhere else where parents want to make sure the things that small children are playing with are safe from a choking hazard standpoint
