A hairstick or hairpin is a straight, pointed device, usually between five and nine inches in length (12 cm and 23 cm), used to hold a person's hair in place in a hair bun or similar hairstyle.
Hairpins and hairsticks were already used in ancient times for placing and securing the most artfully arranged hairstyles. Many hairstyles are not possible without hairpins and hairsticks, so they still have a great importance.
