This is the iPhone 4 / 4s minimalistic version of the TriStand 3D Printed iPhone Cases.

So what is the TriStand? The TriStand iPhone case is a stylish, rugged, ergonomic and most importantly practical snap on 3D Printed protective case for your iPhone with flip out integrated stands using 3D printed micro-hinges; these can be used in different combinations to produce very geometrically stable stands to stand the iPhone in 1 of 3 orientations, a portrait orientation and 1 of 2 angles on both of the landscape orientations, one is great for typing, and the other is great for watching videos. The flip out stands fold flush to the case and 'snap' into place when not in use to stop the stands from opening by themselves. All this while keeping the thickness of the case at only 2.25mm (and 1.5mm at the sides).
Check out the video in the slideshow above of this case in action.

The TriStand design is 3D printed fully assembled taking full advantage of the 3D Printing's ability to print moving parts in a single print.

The TriStand iPhone Cases are 3D printed for you when you order fully assembled in a grippy, strong, rugged and lightweight plastic polyamide material in the colours in the drop down box labelled 'Select Material' in the top right of the page.

Excess powder from the 3d printing process may make the hinges of the moving parts 'sticky' when your case first arrives but this loosens very quickly.

@soundaround I'm glad you like it! For the time being I am going to stick to the iPhone because it is only possible to make these hinges function on a phone with a completely flat back and the iPhone fits this need very well, I will probably look into some other mobiles that this mechanism might possibly work on in the future.

Your Tristand is absolutely brilliant. Any chance it will come over to android as well?

@PeregrineStudios That's good to know! If it starts to loosen off, you may be able to jam a short piece of paperclip between the end of the female part of the hinge and the stand to act as a pivot to keep the pressure up :)

@Maundy No need to apologize! It happens, we know it. It was one of the top hinges sadly, but it actually still works - it fits in tight enough that there may as well still be a hinge there.

@PeregrineStudios Thanks for the compliment, unfortunately this problem is caused by Shapeways occasionally not cleaning the part well enough after printing leaving some powder from the printing process in the hinges making them stiff, I can only apologise on Shapeways' behalf and can only advise to anyone else to be careful when moving the parts for the first time, after the first few movements and the powder clears the hinges, they are actually quite strong and durable. I'm glad you like the design though and hope you can find a way to fix or work without this broken hinge (if it is in one of the two 'wings' as the other side can be used instead) :)

Overall, the design (not to mention the hinges incorporated in the design! Bravo!) is very creative - ingenius, even. My only beef is that it was one hell of a pain getting the stand flip-outs to separate from the rest of the model the first time - in fact, one of the hinges broke in the process. Still one of my favorite cases though :)

@ElisaRichardson This model really demonstrates 3D Printing's ability to print fully functional finished products with inbuilt hinges while also being extremely useful and practical!
