Product Description
The medallion uses a symbol of a traditional motif found in Dobrogea county, Romania, known as "wings of the mill", suggesting human attention to the details of the world that surrounds them, their daily concerns and changing nature. A 2D folk stitch, hundred years old, takes on volume and height, and at a closer look resembles a small town, a miniature world reminiscent of a culture and a rich history of the old Romanian life.
The famous windmills of Dobrogea appear in the first documentary attestation dating since 1585. They have seen a proliferation and durability over time, amid favorable climatic conditions of the region. Windmills in Northern Dobrogea were used for long grain and salt processing, representing the late nineteenth century and beginning of the next century, almost 90% of traditional plants in the area, mostly made up of those with wood wings.
