I find TED talks to be a fantastic source for inspiration. I recently found Johnny Lee’s talk (attached bellow) about cheap Wii Remote hacks and was amazed by how his research was making valuable teaching resources available to schools for a minimal cost. I wanted to help make the technology even more accessible so I set out to design a better pen.
The pen has an infrared LED in the tip that the Wii remote can detect. Software on the computer can then use this information to turn any surface into an interactive whiteboard like those found in schools. When coupled with a projector this creates everything you need to present interactive content.
I hope to develop the design of the pen to completely remove the button making the pen work automatically just like those on current whiteboards. I hope to also develop other stands to allow the remote to be attached to different places like above a laptop screen allowing you to draw on the screen.
