Product Description
Quadricycles were popular alternative vehicles to automobiles from the 1890s to the 1920s. More common in continental Europe than England and the US. At 300 different manufactures in the US alone. Halfway between a motorcycle and a car. Lacking in sophistication, safety equipment, suspension and body work, they often were half the cost of standard "automobiles". This one is roughly modeled after a de Dion Bouton of 1898. Also used by Mr F. R. Simms to create Britain's first "armoured car" for the Boer War by mounting a Vickers-Maxim Mk I water-cooled machine gun on the passenger seat, which drove around various London parks, without attracting any War Office interest. (Or police response?)
