Please view the video in the above slideshow for an animated demonstration of the assembly and function of this iPhone 5 stand case/backplate.
This is a 3D printed backplate for the
GraftConcepts Leverage iPhone 5 case available from
http://www.graftconcepts.com/ which features an integrated flip out stand that is easily assembled from 3 pieces.
Once assembled, this stand is attached to the back of the iPhone using the GraftConcepts Leverage iPhone Case and allows the iPhone to be stood in 1 of 3 angles in either landscape orientation: 35°, 50° and 60° angles from vertical.
When not in use, the flip out stands lock in place flush with the rest of the backplate using a simple slide lock that is 3D printed directly into one of the parts.
Although 3D printing is able to print this fully assembled, I chose to print the parts separately (apart from the slide lock) as once assembled it results in hinges that are stronger and the parts have less 'slop' due to the minimum clearance of 0.5mm between separate parts when they are printed fully assembled as one piece in the 'Strong and Flexible' materials.
The blank, unused areas at the top and bottom of the case have the future possibility to be used to add more functions and features to the backplate to make it even more practical and useful, these areas also have the future potential to be used for customer customisation such as an engraved name or silhouette by making cutouts in the cover revealing the black colour of (most) iPhones.
This design has not yet been tested so please order with caution, the design should work however due to slight dimension inaccuracies that 3D printing can cause and I can not fully predict the materials characteristics of these dimentions, I cannot guarantee that it will work perfectly at the moment however any issues with the design can be easily altered and fixed. However if you want to have a go at ordering this case and testing it out, feel free!!! I have made it available in the white and black strong and flexible materials, I don't want to offer it in the polished materials yet as I am unsure how this will affect the dimensions of the moving parts that may affect the performance of the case.
This backplate requires the
GraftConcepts Leverage iPhone 5 case available from
http://www.graftconcepts.com/ to be used with an iPhone 5.
