You've grasped the concept properly, aeron. Intriguingly, however, the ball will not race around the track unless were to be spun quite ferociously. Instead the whole design will spin and twirl around it while the fully free ball remains in one place, leading to a beautiful visual effect as the single wire that contains it appears to fold around and inside out without moving the ball it is twisting around. The design of the arc is precisely as you described, with the arc just tight enough that once in the axle will be held with a bit of tension to keep it firm and secure while being spun. Also, the portion directly below the inertial spheres is a grip to make spinning easier.

I love the concept of combining separate prints, it has great potential. If I am seeing this right, the arc will bend slightly to allow the axle to fit in, then hold it in place enough so you can spin it, making the ball race around the track.
