    Hi, Hello and How's all,

I'm new to all this 3D and 3D printing, but I'm learning with Shapeways online Tutorials, they are very helpful.
I have hired an artist to model my life's sketches of people. I'm not foreshore what he uses to convert it to 3D but from what I see it looks very complicated, there is no way I can do what he does. He called it organic modeling what ever that is, lol...
It looks like he takes my drawings into the his 3d software and traces shapes in front of my sketch with a box and then he turns that box into a human model, I ask my artist what button do you use to make the model? he said there is no button and that you need to model everything by hand, I still did not really understand what he was trying to explain..

I have worked as a dish washer for over 20 years at my local restaurants in my home town.
I do plan on hiring someone from Shapeways in the future when I can come up with a bit more money.

    Thanks for reading my message....

    Hello to you too.

If you are interested in how the modelling is done, have a look at some of the tutorial videos. Here is an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?[/U]v=0QT1GNMevfc

You can scrub forward to get a rough idea of what is going on rather than watch every move, but it shows how your modeller take your pictures and from them, shuffles all the vertices around to match your picture and make a 3D model.

    Hey, Thank You Celtic3d.

I better stick with dish washing, the vid is very complicating to me, I guess you need a collage degree to do that professionally.
I browsed your shop, your very talented.

I didn't mean that king of scrubbing!

Don't be put off. There are lots of folks on here that are willing to help out. And remember, it is not all about technical ability, a creative spark is just as essential for success.

"Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can."

You can learn this. And you will be a happier man for having won through, I am sure. The skill of 3d modeling is SO worth the investment of time and persistence. It has proven so to me already, and I've only just started this year.

For inspiration, maybe watch the Wizard of Oz again. Follow the Scarecrow!

I'm eager to offer whatever help I can. I'm a beginner, but I have a clue or two. Please feel free to contact me. (I beg patience for my reply.)

I second what Fatbirdy said. Learn little by little, one tool at a time, keep experimenting and you will learn. No one is ever an expert on first try, and everyone is always learning even the experts.

You and Celtic3d are an inspiration, Good to now there are people out there like you guy's that are willing to help out.
I downloaded a copy of Blender and now I'm learning how to Navigate though the software from the videos Celtic3d suggested.

I was wondering about a particular software everyone talks about (POSER), Is this software good to use? from what I was told it's really easy.
However there is a fat price for it and it would most likely take me six mouths to save up for it.

I like to draw life sketches of ordinary and not so perfect people that they hire to pose at my local community collage, I Volunteer my time of from work to help students how to sketch. It would be nice to be able to sketch in 3d.

    Thanks again....

Spending six months of your savings sounds a bit heavy. I've not looked at it for a long time, but there used to be a free package called MakeHuman that allows you to create and export human figures. Would be worth a look. Now you reminded me of it, I will take a look as well.

Within Blender, you need to 'rig' a model with bones so that you can pose it. This is a complicated process that would take some time to get your head around. Within 3D, rigging is seen as a specialist skill. Within Blender, look for the 'rigify' tool to get a starter set of bones for a human character.

I would recommend being very careful before spending your hard earned cash, there are nearly always viable (and sometimes excellent) open source alternatives you can learn on for free.

Some of the big commercial outfits also have fee trial options, I am thinking of Daz3d in particular. I have tried these in the past, but the limitations imposed with the free trials are deliberate and designed to force you to buy at some point. Personally, I much prefer working with the open source options which also come with active and supportive communities behind them. Help is usually only a Google search away.

Careful, this stuff can take over your life!

An additional thought, the tutorial I linked originally was intended to show you what the process looks like, this is probably not the best starting point.

Check out CGCookie, this would be a much better way to approach Blender fundamentals without getting overwhelmed.

LOL... (rig, rigging, rigify, bones) You must me speaking in another Language Celtic3d, this is all way over my head.
I'm going to fallow your suggestion on the 3d software Blender, the others cost more then my grocery bill beside I can't find Make Human or 3d Das anyway plus I lost interest. Blender is more then I can handle for now and I like it.

Also I learned that my artist uses Blender for printing in 3d.

    Thanks...

Thank You again for another link, I was wondering if you had any more tutorials I could view.
To be honest I'm really computer illiterate, I have good friends that help me with my store and show me how it all works on Shapeway.
I was gifted a new computer from my friends and they have been teaching me how to use it, if it wasn't for them I could not a afford it.

Perhaps you'll find what you need right now here.
I used "05. How to create a cup of coffee in Blender" and learned enough to make my first oil candle prototypes.
BTW CGCookie looks great. I think I'll try it when budget allows.
