My prototypes for three vessels arrived this week. Inspired by the structure of gelatin and other colloids, these vessels are composed of interlocking shapes which limit the movement of neighboring shapes. This results in a fabric-like surface with a limited range of motion. Although they are roughly spherical, they flex and shift into oblong shapes in an organic fashion.

Each has built-in grommets for the installation of a drawstring. Each also has depressions along the edge of the opening for the installation of rare earth magnets.

I dyed the White Strong & Flexible version with RIT dye. Although the links of the vessel aren't attached, capillary action drew the dye through adjacent links above the water level of the dye. This resulted in a fairly even gradient between the orange and blue sides.

The clutch version of the vessel is a slightly squashed oblong sphere large enough for a smartphone, ID, and a few other small items.

The pouch version of the vessel is sized for smaller items. I drybrushed the Black Strong & Flexible with metallic acrylic paint.

I have more pictures of each of them posted at https://www.shapeways.com/shops/madebywombat?section=Colloid al+Vessels&s=0 and a video of all of them is at http://youtu.be/tH0zy1vJ4Ho.

They just might be the world's first 3D printed breast implants for androids and robots!
