Shapeway uses a combination of automated algorithms and human unput to package the cake as tight as possible. Question: Is there are software out there that can pack x amount of models into the smallest bounding box ? Preferably with features like collision detection for interlocked models like a chain. I know most 3d packages have physx simulations and the likes, so i guess for a poor mans version of this one could throw all the stuff into a box, shake it for a few hours and let gravity do the work.
