Can i have two different materials in one product?

  1. Hi, I am designing product and i need the handle to be ceramic and the tip be out of metal, my question is if its possible how do i do that ? does any one have any recomendations? :confused
    sorry if im asking in the wrong section this is my first post.

    Hi jupikman,

    we're not able to print multiple materials - printing processes and operating temperatures are way too different. The only commercially available multi material printer is the Objet Polyjet:

    This is still very much a prototyping material though, and can't handle metals or ceramics, sorry!

    Somewhere one of our designers made a pipe that was 2 separately printed pieces of ceramic and stainless assembled after receiving it. That would be the only way to achieve this. These are also 2 of the least accurate materials. Stainless has an infusion process that can lead to shrinkage, and warpage. Ceramics is glazed which adds thickness, and then it's fired which can cause warpage as well. So read up on the guidelines, and leave yourself some wiggle room for assembly.
