Spherical neodymium magnets are (were?) a popular desk toy with which you can build all sorts of intricate structures. However, as far as we know nobody has yet been able to build a buckyball (the soccer ball shape) with them. (This is ironic, given that "buckyball" is one of the trade names they used to be sold under).

Well, we don't know how to build one either, but we know how to cheat using 3d printing. This scaffold gives just enough structure to make it possible to build, very carefully, using at least 4 hands.

This is joint work with Rosa Zwier.
