Need help with modeling 3D jewel with little hinge

  1. Hi,

I want to print a little zilver plated box (pendant/ca. 3 cm) with a hinge so you can open the box. You can see an example in the picture (attachment).
Does anybody know if this is possible? And what I have to do to create this?
Don't know hoe to vet started

You'd probably be best off having the two halves modeled separately and then inserting your own non 3d printed pin.

  3. Thx for your reply. I don't have a clue how to start ...
Can somebody help me with this ...?

    Start with what?
Do you need a designer to model the Pieces? (Id be happy to design)
Or do you already have the part designed and wish to order?

Sounds like you need help with the dimensions of the interlocking pin / two halfs? as far as fitting together nicely?
(aka) the outer diameter of the pin vs the inside diameter of the hole.

You need to take into account the shrinkage of the metal when being cast.
As far as I know Shapeways only offers (cast) solid silver not plated silver.
Also the tolerance of the machine when printing in wax is + or - a certain amount as well.
Also even after being cast (shrinking) and taking the tolerance into account you still have polishing which removes a noticeable amount of material.

Hopefully someone can help with the sizing / dimensions as far as the pin interlocking.
