The Hidden Heart Espresso Cup

Perfect for Valentine's Day (or any other day needing a little heart), The Hidden Heart Espresso Cup reveals a perfect heart shape when a double shot of espresso is poured into it. Because of its complex contours, this hidden shape can't be made with traditional molds or normal ceramic fabrication processes. Food-safe in Glazed Ceramics, and 2 make a perfect couple!

More about why complex shapes are difficult in ceramic:

Ceramic is usually either spun or poured into 2 part molds, but there are several limitations to this. With a spun piece (think pottery wheel), you can only easily make symmetrical shapes, and then if you want alter them a little bit from the outside. With a mold, you can make more complicated shapes but to be able to remove it from the mold, you can't have any contours that overhang (the underside, like a cliff, will get caught on the mold and you won't be able to pull it out). This is usually what's called draft.

3D Printing is Cool

Anyway with 3D printing those aren't problems, since the form is being built up layer by layer. The issue of draft goes away entirely, and there's much more freedom to focus on design. I like to design for the hand as well as the eye. Kitchen, food, and drink-ware should almost slide into your hand, and give you a closer connection to what you are putting in your body.

Of course, you still have to consider wall thickness and minimum feature height and a couple other things, but that's not a bad trade-off for getting any form you can image!

The Hipster pick for the 2011 Holiday season!

Our living room wall is decorated with some LP's which are, in turn, decorated with some 3d printed goodness: two birds on a branch, tweeting along to your favourite music. The branch can be clipped onto wall mounts for records.

Goes well with the second clip-on model: the vinyl notes.

Depicting the bittersweet experience of love & loss as well as suggesting that love is what you make of it. The anchor & chain are intended to symbolize the security of steadfast loyalty in stormy seas & that which keeps you from becoming aimlessly adrift. The arrow is love's tool of capture & the weeping tear symbolizes the pain of loss. The suspended ring demonstrates the promise of commitment. The bony skeletal structure of an origami paper crane. Created following the traditional crane model, for any lovers or the art of paper folding out there.

The detail is incredible, you can see textures and complex shapes even inside of the rib cage. The poor contorted crane has legs and feet, they are folded into its torso in true origami fashion. And vertebrae on the tail you say? What else did you expect?

This little guy is a fox and proud of it.

This incarnation is best suited to use as a decorative object, but we're open to suggestions for how you'd like to see it modified for your use!

The two most interesting uses we've found so far are using the WSF (polished) version as a surprisingly striking little glow bulb if you shine a light inside it, and possibly using the (pleasantly hefty) stainless steel version as an imposing game board piece.

Rat earrings.
Tested in stainless steel. The earrings are heavy and the hook is thick, but they are suitable for wearing and are easier to put on than their strong and flexible material version. The hooks on the ones in the photos are slightly polished so they are a bit different from what comes straight from Shapeways.

for iphone 4/4s. The hollowed case in combination with the contract color of the iphone itself gives a vivid animal figure. The case is stylish and in the same time heat eliminated.

"Kardia" Heart Pendant displays the anatomical beauty of the heart in all its glory. Can be used as a necklace or as a keyring. Please note the pendant is sold without the chain and the pendant shown is produced in Gold Plated Matte.

An ornament in the shape of a tree, with some of the roots creating a garland around it. This ornament can stand on a surface or be hung in a window, in a tree or on a door. The branches produce a beautiful pattern regardless of which angle you view it in. All the lines is flowing and come together in harmony. Please note that the "White Strong & Flexible" material will turn yellowish if you leave it in the sun. If you're going to hang it in a window, make sure it faces the side of the building with most shadow.

This is a full working tabacco pipe. The head is made with glazed ceramics, the mouthpiece is antique bronze glossy.

A pipe is definitely a matchmaker. It makes you look distinguished and sexy. Like a successful scientist, a confident playboy or an experienced sailor.
Yeah, tabacco is bad for your health, so use bubbles instead! Works even better cause it gives you a great lemon flavour, but this depends on the dish soap you use. The ladys will appreciate it!

Attention!
The pipe is made of two parts. You need to order both and mount it by yourself! You can find the mouthpiece here.
I would suggest e.g. Sugru (sugru.com) for the sealing.
Cause the pipe is made of glazed ceramic, there is the possibility that some of the glaze stuck the openings. In case of this, you need to grind or even drill this parts to clear it.
Please order the pipe only if you think you can handle this!

A small paper plane pendant.

This is a full miniature set of the original four Perk-a-Cola Machines from Nazi Zombies. Each one is scaled to the correct size and each is about the size of a business card (to give you an idea of the scale).

All are printed in Full Color Sandstone. Each model is hollow with an opening on the bottom to reduce cost. The interior surfaces are reinforced to make them stronger. The signs on top are fragile so please handle with care.

Turn the odds in your favor with all four of the original Perk-a-colas. They are a great addition to any fan's collection.

Ordering this set is the best option if you want all four perk machines since it will save you near $10.00 USD compared to ordering the machines separately.

This is a truly inspiring piece, designed to use the minimum material and the largest print size while keeping the cost low. This is huge at 570mm high, it's a show stopper a head turner. Shapeways have been pushed to their limits to produce and ship this. It is fragile and care must be taken but once it is hanging from a wall with a small pin or nail. The fine 1mm wire structure comes together to create a wonderful huge majestic stag head and a wonderful balance of weight in the form while almost being invisible.
