These pieces are mathematical raytraced fractals, which gives them their characteristic filigree look.

Somewhere between countless combinatoric possibilities these precious are hiding.

How its done:
The program used is Mandelbulber, a 3D fractal raytracer. The volume is rendered in an image stack and then stitched together with FIJI and post processed with meshlab.
