HO-Scale Canadian Comfort Cab

Not For Sale

Product Description

The HO scale Canadian Comfort Cab -  basically a four window variant of the North American Safety Cab - is designed to be generically fitted to an existing HO scale locomotive shell. This is a kitbashing resource.

The cab will be upgraded from time to time to include (much) more detail. The rear doors were recetly added. Also the side panels and other details were added (vent, bell, hinges and headlines). Still missing are the sunshield, side window wind protectors, antenna, headlights, grab irons, rain gutter, wipers, etc.

You will notice that the cab currently features a second slanted portion on the wide hood which is not prototypical. The model is due for a review soon.

I noticed the Cab being 1.25mm too long for an older Atlas GP40 frame I own, so - in the future - I will likely produce non-generic variants for specific models I have.

Prototype Information: The Canadian National Railway introduced this cab designed by input from railway employees in 1973 on a GP38-2(W) and on MLW M-420 locomotives. The locomotives equipped with such a cab were EMD GP38-2W, GP40-2W, SD40-2W. These all had the classic high control stand inside the cab. Later GMD's SD50F and SD60F (Cowl Units) for the CN featured a similar cab.

Finally GE installed similar cabs on BCR's and CN's later Dash-8 (CM40-8) and early Dash-9s (CW44-9) too. These units had desktop style control stands.

By the way the Canadian Pacific Railway also had cowl units, the GMD SD40-2F (nicknamed "Red Barn"), which however had a different 3 window cab style.

Compatibility: NONE. Matching BCR or CN locomotives would be: EMD SD40-2W, GP40-2W, GP38-2W, early GE CW44-9 or the MLW M420W
Please note: This is a beta product, it features generic HO-scale measurements and is not designed for any particular locomotive chassis/frame. It is a rather low detail cab suitable for kitbashing or scratchbuilding. Many details are still missing. There is an unprototypical bevel on bothe sides of the hood, similar to SD70 cabs, which is to be removed on future versions. The door handles are very delicate, I inadvertedly broke of during unpackaging.
