Product Description
Original pendant inspired by greco-roman religion and the cult of Diana.
Diana/Artemis is the goddess of the verdant, the duality of civilization and the wild (the roads and the countryside), feminine youth, beauty and childbearing. She is the daughter of Jupiter/Zeus and the hyperborean Leto, she is the twin sister of Apollo.
If for the ancients,
the masculine is the sun and the sky, then the feminine is the sea and the Earth. The sylvan and verdant aspect of the world is the symbolically feminine domain. Diana  is the main female goddess of the indo-europeans as is proved by the etymology of her name. Dīāna probably derives from Latin dīus ('godly'), from Proto-Italic *dīwī, meaning 'divine, heavenly', ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *diwyós ('divine, heavenly'). All of her nymphs are long-legged and beautiful, but Diana surpasses them all in beauty.
The design is made of a nine petals sunflower. 9 being a sacred number as it is the cycle of gestation and the number of muses. If she is going to be associated with the earth and plants, then surely the sunflower ought to be her flower, as a flower which turns toward the solar principle, and which has a radiant shape, "as above so bellow". It is also a flower which produces many grains, which makes it a symbol of fertility.  Diana has a role as protector of the young pregnant women and childbirth (epithet Lucina "light" of the moon, as its cycles were used to track female fertility). The world oak tree which sits inside with its deep roots and overflowing branches, represents the continuation of lineage and the transmission of culture which are feminine roles. The central piece is Diana's bust, as goddess of feminine beauty, youth, breading and verdant nature (epithet Rustica).
