Product Description
1 pair of HO scale swing motion, wooden bolster, archbar freight trucks of the Allen or 'California' pattern. This type was popular from the mid 1860s through the 1880s, especially on Western US railroads. Modeled after those under the Virginia & Truckee ventilated boxcar at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, probably of Central Pacific origin. Outside brakes on both trucks hung from the car's underfloor on the prototype. Have stars on the journal covers like the prototype. Approx. 60" wheelbase. Note photos show a preproduction model with an overly wide bolster center.
Mounting hole is 0.11"/2.8mm diameter with a 0.20"/5mm diameter recess for a #2 screw.
Requires 33" wheelsets with ~1" axles (Kadee, Athearn/MDC, Intermountain, Reboxx). Others may also fit.
Wicking in some thin CA glue will strengthen parts. Because of their fine detail, Smoothest or Smooth Fine Detail are the preferred materials, others will show varying degrees of surface roughness or indistict, overly smooth detail. Most other materials may not even print because of the thin sections. Clean with alcohol before painting. Use toothbrush soaked in Bestine rubber cement remover if particularly greasy. May require a little scraping. Acrylics recommended.
Part Number HOT82s.
