Product Description
This is an early Roman actuaria, built as a triconter, or 30-oar ship. Rome did not use huge numbers of hyper-galleys as other Mediterranean powers did, preferring smaller ships. The actuaria was a cheap alternative to larger polyremes for transporting troops or important individuals, such as consuls. This model has a hole between the mainmast and stern to hold pins indicating what that might be. Besides, if you're playing as Rome in Avalon Hill's Trireme board game, something has to fill the roll of galley, and it may as well be the actuaria.
