Product Description
Originally derived from the incomplete hulls of the cancelled Farragut-class Monitor, the Olympus Mons freighter (and her sub-classes, the Reid Fleming tanker and Mercy hospital ship) would become key to the Fleet's logistics train in the latter phases of the War. Able to keep up with the swift, antimatter-powered combat ships, they carried fuel, supplies, and troops for the expected ground assaults on enemy planets. While the actual invasions never took place and the war was finally settled by diplomatic means, dozens of these vital ships were built and served with honor in the Fleet.
After the War, the Fleet downsized considerably and many of these ships - popularly called "Baby Bisons" - were sold on the civilian market. The availability of these powerfully-engined transports, and many licensed copies of them built by civilian shipbuilders, would fuel a new wave of trade and colonial expansion by Earth and her allies.
The Olympus Mons-class combat transport UES Ishtar Terra (APM-59) and the Reid Fleming-class deuterium tanker UES DeMarco (ADM-35) are on display at the Fleet Museum.
