The WYN Star Cluster stands as a huge beacon at the crossroads of the galaxy. Marking the point where the Klingon, Lyran, and Kzinti borders meet, the cluster itself was long considered uninhabitable. Surrounded by a dense cloud of highly radioactive dust, it was assumed that the entire cluster was saturated with deadly radiation. All residents of the WYN Cluster are immigrants from other species and empires.

Because of their small fleet of hard-to-replace warships, the WYNs took quickly to the concept of attrition craft, but found it easier to buy or steal fighters from the Klingons and Kzintis than to design and build their own. When gunboats first appeared and proved a devastating improvement to local defenses, the WYNs sought to buy or steal them from the Lyrans, Klingons, and Kzintis. Each of the tiny gunboats has half of the firepower of a heavy cruiser. A flotilla of six gunboats can destroy a cruiser or cripple a dreadnought in a single battle pass. Their short range is no problem for the WYNs as the entire cluster is a small part of the operating radius of a gunboat. The Orions had started building their own Buccaneer gunboats in their shipyards, including the one in the WYN cluster, and the WYNs quickly adapted the Orion design and began producing their own, which simplified maintenance issues compared to using foreign-built gunboats.

This tree of gunboats is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
