Product Description

Part 2 of the Search & Rescue system.

 

This part is the housing for the electropermanent magnet payload relaese accessory.  The electropermanent magnet has a 5kg payload limit which is well beyond the lift capacities of most small UAVs.  Loads can vary depeding on situational circumstances but in the instance of a water rescue a small auto-inflating PFD or EPIRB can be deployed. Loads use a strap with a small ferrous target attached which is then applied to the effective magnetic portion of the housing.  Functionally speaking, a small electrical charge is used to "magnetize" an AlNiCo magnet. Once the cycle time is reached, 200 miliseconds, the AlNiCo magnet is made "permanent" and remains in that state without ongoing current.  An additional charge with decreasing amplitude is then used with the same cycle duration and the AlNiCo magnet is effectively degaussed, hence payload deployment.  Drops can be achieved either via RC command or by a manually actuated switch located on the side of the housing.  An indicator LED is also provided to give visual confirmation of magnetic status.

 

In addition to the elctropermanent magnet, this part also houses a CCD 700TVL,low lux, down facing "target camera".   It allows the operator to see the area to which the payload drop will occur.  In low light situations a high intensity LED spot beam is also contained in this part to aid in the illumniation of the target zone for both the operator and payload recipient.
