Product Description

Anomalocaris is an extinct marine arthropod of the genus Anomalocaris that evolved during the Cambrian period (540 - 480 mya) with interleaving lobes along the side of its body, compound eyes on stalks upon its head, a circular plate-rimmed mouth and a pair of distinctive grasping fore-limb. For the time in which it lived Anomalocaris was a true giant reaching lengths of up to one metre.

First discovered in the Burgess Shale of Canada various fossils were originally thought to be three different creatures. Later discoveries revealed that the separate parts actually belonged to one large creature and it became clear that Anomalocaris was probably an highly manoeuvrable arthropod with excellent vision and an ability to attack and hold on to prey.

Paleozoo is a collection of creature models that looks at the anatomy of some of the earliest forms of life on the planet.
