Product Description
Most colony planets had some Heavy Transport Shuttles (HTS) intended for local utility use delivering outsized and other cargo. To satisfy Federation requirements that each colony have some kind of defenses, some colony worlds obtained “kits” that could (in a few hours) turn these Heavy Transport Shuttles into a fighter or bomber of sorts. Obviously, a kit-converted civilian shuttle would not be as effective as a purpose-built fighter, but it was better than nothing. The kit that turned a Heavy Transport Shuttle into a B-26 added wings, drone rails, and targeting systems. By the nature of the kit, it could not add phasers or electronic warfare systems.
The Federation gave the resulting unit the designation B-26. Normally, a “B” would mean a bomber that was at least three times the size of a standard shuttle, while the B-26 was only twice as big. The “B” designation was given because such fighter-bomber/shuttles could not, under any circumstances, be carried by or operated from a ship. The B-26 retained much of its cargo capacity; with the kit removed after the threat passed, the HTS was restored to its full cargo capability. The B-26 carried four standard drones (smaller anti-fighter drones could be substituted but would all but eliminate anti-ship firepower).
This comb of bombers is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
