Product Description

These chart house vents are based on measurements found in Elco drawings for all 80' boats except PT 589-624. All outside surfaces are scale except for minimal thickening of the vent horn opening, and base flange thickness to meet printing minimums. Vent horns are positionable in 45 degree increments. The vent spring catches are too thin to print so a bending form to create them if desired is included.

Locating Jigs
The 1/72nd and 1/48th scales include 3 sets of locating jigs to cover all boats. The 35th and larger scales have 3 sets of jigs available separately in lower cost strong and flexible plastic because it is less to buy both rather than add the jigs to the detail plastic vent model. They are available for PT 103-196, PT 314 on except PT 565-624, and PT 565-624. PT 589-624 had different vent horns / cowls.

About
A vertically split retaining ring (8.625" outside diameter) captured the vent assembly while allowing it to rotate. The ring had 4 sockets that captured a spring catch on the vent assembly. This allowed the vent to be locked in 90 degree increments, 45 degrees off horizontal and vertical. PT images also show vents positioned horizontal and vertical.

Included
3 base rings
3 vent assemblies
Drill guide
Form for bending spring catches
48th and 72nd scales only, locating jigs

Preparation
The first step is to clean all parts thoroughly. Handle very carefully as the plastic is brittle. Please see the guide and links here: http://www.pt103.com/3D_Printed_PT_Boat_Parts.html. For best painting results be sure to follow cleaning with a UV cure from a lamp with the correct output, or the sun.

Assembly
Use a fine razor saw to cut parts off along the sprue leaving the mounting pins for the base rings.
Trim excess sprue from the vent horns.
Check fit of vent horns into base rings.
Drill for base ring pins so that the pins are horizontal.

Locations, to center of vent base rings
Measurements are given in full scale and most are specified in Elco drawings.
FP = forward point, the forwardmost point of the planked and decked hull less guards and bullnose / fairlead.
The forwardmost point of the chart house is at frame 23, 335" aft of FP. Note that the forward edge of the chart house is trimmed off square 1" to accomodate the deck angle.
