Product Description
The third ship of the old heavy cruiser class, Alexander the Great, was under construction in two years after the Federation Council voted to expand the Federation exploration program. While the ship was under construction, it was decided to concentrate on the new Constitution class as the standard heavy cruiser of the fleet. The Alexander’s hull was 74% finished, and sat in the construction dock waiting to be scheduled for scrapping. The Federation’s survey command then offered to pay for the ship’s completion as a survey cruiser, noting that a larger hull would be more survivable and the ship’s engines (a major expense) had already been installed. The ship was launched two years later and entered service the next year renamed USS Magellan.

The ship famously made first contact with the Deians in 20 years later, but that would prove its final significant contribution as it disappeared four years after while on a survey mission into the distant survey zone. In honor of its contributions, the fifth ship of the new galactic survey cruiser class was also named Magellan.

The Alexander/Magellan was a fully functional scout and in time of war was retasked in that role.

This ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
