Product Description
}This item is an OO / HO scale breakdown crane with flatbed included. It is a replica of the breakdown cranes seen in the model series of Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends. To make a complete and TV show accurate breakdown train, you'll need one crane with the door and window on the right hand side and one model with the door and window on the left hand side. This model has the crane door and window on the right hand side. In order to make it functional, you'll simply need to paint it, add two chains (one to make the arm raise and lower, and one to make the hook raise and lower), add wheels (almost any HO / OO scale wheels will do), and add a coupling method. There are hooks on each end which you can add chains to for coupling if you like (as seen in the photos), or else you can glue a hook and loop coupler to the end if you prefer.
The crane body swivels on its flatbed, the arm can raise and lower, and the hook can also raise and lower independently. The winch barrels have a locking mechanism built in to them, so if you pull the barrel to one specific side, the barrel will stop moving. If you push it back the other way, it will be able to free roll again.
One short chain should be attached to the small barrel at the top of the crane with glue, then wrapped once around the bit that sticks out between the crane cab and the arm, then the other end of the chain should be glued to the rectangular beam inside and near the top of the crane arm.
A longer chain should be glued to the large barrel at the bottom of the crane, then fed up the crane arm and pulled out of the top where there is a small hole. Then the hook peice should be fed through the chain, and the other end of the chain should be glued to the underside of the top of the crane arm, just behind the small wheel at the tip.
To operate the winch barrels, simple turn the handle attached to the barrel for the smaller one to make the arm go up and down, or slot the large winch peice handle into the square hold on the large barrel to turn the large barrel and control the hook chain.
Please note that the models seen in the photos are made by my own 3D printer, so they have imperfections and flaws. If you were to order a breakdown crane, it would not have any of these imperfections as yours will be printed by Shapeways' professional printers and therefore look perfect.
