Product Description

I've loved the Statue of Liberty for as long as I can remember. I have never seen the original (surprising eh?) but I eagerly collect models, books and other things about her.

Out of all of the models of the Statue of Liberty in existence, probably none comes closer to capturing the vision of Bartholdi like the rare bronzes he had cast on demand from the French foundry Thiebaut Frères. Very few are known to exist as they were usually cast from Bartholdi's study model or maquette as gifts for friends and benefactors.

The visitors to the museum at the base of the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island have seen a modern bronze copy of just such a model. The original is too valuable to display within reach, so a bronze copy stands in its place for people to get a closer look and touch.

I was fortunate enough to extensively photograph another bronze model from the same maquette and used the photographs to recreate the model with the help of Photoscan. The only things I've changed about this model is turning the flame clockwise about 75 degrees to the goddess' left to match the final configuration of the full-sized New York Statue of Liberty. I also adjusted the angle and position of the rays on the crown to more closely match the Statue of Liberty in New York as well.

The final model as presented here more closely resembles the Statue of Liberty as she stands today in New York harbor. I do still have the original, unedited model and plan to list it here as well for purists.
