Product Description
NEW!!! This is a one-of-a-kind version of the General Electric EF4 "Little Joe" purchased by the Milwaukee Road, Unit E78. Up until 1966, this unit was undistinguished from its sibling Joes. However, a significant accident in May, 1966 left E78 in need of a new face. The Milwaukee Road shops went in high gear to mend E78 - using a donor EMD (E-8?) unit for parts. The most obvious spotting feature that distinguishes E78 from other Joes are the large rectangular stainless steel ventilation grills along either side. The trained eye, however, will also notice that the cab section carries familiar EMD E/F cab window styling and cues. Other spotting features include venting louvers below grills on the mid-section, a sheet metal patch and compartment hatch on the engineer's side of "A" cab. Pantograph mounts are spaced to fit Kato GG1 pantographs as drop ins. There is no direct fit mechanism for this model so you'll have to be creative although the axle spacing will match most 6 axle EMD models.  Shapeways modeller SteamMonster was generous to provide a meticulous step-by-step pictoral guide to his Kato GG1 chassis conversion.  Take a look here!   (http://s7.photobucket.com/user/63Hofnerbassman/library/Shapeways%20Little%20Joe%20build?sort=2&page=1)
