Product Description
This is the top to our magnetic fuel cell receiver box and it requires our Magnetic Monster Truck Fuel Cell Receiver Box Base to complete the unit. Magnets are also required and they can be purchased at your local Home Depot. The name of the magnets is Super Magnets and the part number is 07045. The fuel cell arrives in white or black plastic and requires paint to finish it off.
Magnet Mounting Directions
1. You will need to glue one magnet to each inner corner of the top. With the top upside down, attach a single magnet to each corner with a small dab of JB Weld. Give the JB Weld time to cure before moving to the next step.
2. Place another magnet on top of each of the magnets that you already glued. Apply a small dab of JB Weld to the bottom of each of those magnets and make sure you keep the dab of JB Weld towards the center of the top so that it doesn't squish out and glue the top to the base.
3. Connect the top and base while making sure to align the slotted opening in each part. You will want to add some weight to the top of the fuel cell and give the JB Weld time to cure before pulling the top off of the base.
You can start off with two magnets (one on opposite corners) and if that is not enough holding power for your application, try adding a third and or fourth if necessary.
Painting Tips
You can leave the part as it comes out of the package and mount them up but adding some paint will smooth out the part and add more detail. Here are some painting tips to help bring your Hetmanski Hobbies part to life.
Use Primer We recommend starting with three even coats of Testors Model Master White Primer which is part number 2948. Testors paints spray thick and therefore will help fill in the rough surface of the part. Wait 15min after each coat before spraying another.
Applying Color When applying your color of choice you’ll want to apply it the same way that you applied your primer. Spray even coats and three of them should get you full coverage. Wait 15min between coats. Again we recommend using Testors enamel paints due to their thickness and ability to fill in the grooves of your 3D printed part.
Let It Dry The longer you let Testors paints dry the better off you’ll be. Handling the part too soon will result in a part with finger prints and other marks in it. We recommend letting the paint dry for a minimum of two days before handling.
Masking
We recommend the use of Tamiya or Parma tape to do any masking. This tape conforms well to surfaces and provides a clean crisp edge. Various widths are available.
