Many people prefer custom stands and mounting methods for 3D printed planes. But for those that prefer the original stands for
Wings of Glory or
Wings of War, this product contains 48 4mm pegs to connect custom airplane models to standard stands. Note: these are
not pegs to use as part of the stands themselves, they are only for attaching to planes so they can be inserted on a stand. (Other than full-color models,
Reduced Aircraft Factory planes do not usually come with integral pegs.)
This version assumes you want to glue the peg directly to the model.
Another product assumes you want to drill a pilot hole into the model, which will make a stronger joint (but is more work).
To use, separate each of the layers and then cut off pegs as needed. Filing may be desirable on the ends to remove any excess where the cuts were made. It is best if the peg can be mounted near the front-and-back balance point of the airplane, but sometimes airplane geometry makes that challenging.
As to materials, Versatile Plastic is cheapest, PA12 is strongest, and Detail Plastic has a translucent look that better matches the stand pegs, but it is brittle. I use PA12 for my own planes.
If you have a 3D printer, you can download this STL file for free and try to print it yourself. You may need to reorient it, depending on your printer. There is no designer mark-up on this product.
