Product Description
Buffer guides for LCDR coaches, pack of 20. They represent the 4-ribbed design used on 4-wheeled and 6-wheeled coaches and may also be appropriate for the LCDR's bogie stock (but I have no information on the latter vehicles). The model is based on orginal LCDR carriage-drawings and dimensioned sketches kindly supplied by Mr. G. G. Lines.

These guides are designed to be used with turned heads/rams and coil springs (MJT or Alan Gibson Workshop) to make sprung buffers. On 4-wheeled coaches, the heads should be 12" diameter; on 6-wheeled stock the buffer heads might have been larger, possibly 15" or 16", but I lack definite information.

For the  S-scale version, the same kind of rams and springs are needed as for 4mm: the bores in the guides are the same. Buffer heads that scale to 15" in 4mm scale repesent 12.6" in S and are probably the closest available.

The buffers should be set up so that the buffing face is a scale 21" from the headstock. Please note that this leaves an unusually large length of the buffer ram showing. This is not a design error in the model, but matches the LCDR drawings; it illustrates a common design feature of the 19th century that changed in 20th-century stock.
