Prototype Notes:
THAAD - Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (formerly Theatre High Alt.....) An American anti-ballistic missile defence system. The THAAD interceptor carries no warhead, but relies on its kinetic energy at impact to destroy the incoming missile. A kinetic energy hit minimizes the risk of exploding conventional-warhead ballistic missiles. Nuclear warheads will not detonate on a kinetic-energy hit. THAAD is manufactured by Lockheed Martin and has been in service since 2008.
HEMTT - Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck. An eight-wheel drive, diesel-powered, tactical truck used by the US military and other allied forces. In evolving configurations it has been in continuous production since 1982. It has been developed into a series of vehicles all built on similar chassis but specially equipped to perform different missions. The THAAD Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV) is based on a modified M1075 Load Handling System (LHS) truck. HEMTT is built by the Oshkosh Corporation of America.
FMTV - Family of Medium Tactical Vehicle, A series of vehicles, based on a common chassis, that vary by payload and mission requirements.
M1085 : Long Wheel Base cargo truck
M1088 : Semi-trailer Tractor Unit
The FMTV's in this set are as manufactured by Stewart and Stevenson and its subsequent owners between 1996 and 2011.
The AEU, EEU, CEU and PPU trailers together make up a complete AN/TPY-2 radar system. The AN/TPY-2 is a missile defence radar that can detect, classify and track ballistic missiles. It operates in the X-band of the electromagnetic spectrum which enables it to see targets more clearly. It has two modes – one to detect ballistic missiles as they rise, and another that can guide interceptors toward a descending warhead. AN/TPY-2 is and is manufactured by defence contractor Raytheon headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts.
